Your relationship with your celebrant is a very personal one as they guide you through to the moment when you make perhaps the most significant commitment you will ever make in your life. So a little insight into my own story may help you decide if I am the right person for you.

 

I have been married twice. Maybe once would have been better but I had a few things to learn about myself and life before I got it right.

The first ceremony was in church and it was, well - forgettable. The second time around we chose a celebrant and 27 years on (and I don’t know where the years have gone) I still remember the ceremony, and I have kept the transcript along with my wedding certificate.

The theme of our ceremony was taken from The Little Prince and the story he told of his rose and how he loved her and protected her despite a sometimes difficult relationship (she had a few thorns). Most of our wedding photos have now faded and have been relegated to the bottom drawer in the study. However, we don’t need a photo to remind us of that day.  Whenever my hubby says “you are showing a few thorns today”, we laugh because it takes us right back to our wedding day and what we promised to each other.

How many people are fortunate enough to be able to re-live their wedding day after 27 years?  Every time my husband and I laugh and hug over the occasional thorny word (I am a woman after all and I have never learnt to cure his habit of discarding his socks wherever he happens to be) I am grateful that we found Emmy, a celebrant with insight, warmth and humour who gave us this gift.

Most celebrants are very well trained in the legal aspects of marriage and do their job efficiently. However, when I studied celebrancy I had Emmy’s gift in mind.
